Fix the figure in two minutes, without touching the original
With the Image macro the nearly-right screenshot - too much desktop around the edge, slightly too dark, rotated the wrong way - is fixed on the page. Your original file is never touched, so correcting a figure is a two-minute edit rather than a round trip through an image editor.
You can change your mind next month
Every crop, rotation and adjustment is applied when the page renders, not written back to the file. Change your mind later and you change a number - the untouched original is still there, and two pages can show two different crops of the same image.
Your readers see the part of the screenshot that matters
Trim each edge to cut away the browser chrome and the empty desktop, rotate in quarter turns, flip when the photo came off the phone sideways. Readers pan and zoom up to twenty times in, so fine print in a screenshot stays readable without you making a second, zoomed-in copy.
You rescue the image you already have
Brightness, contrast, saturation, exposure, temperature, gamma, clarity and vignette are all there - enough to make a dark photo of a whiteboard legible, or to calm a screenshot that fights the rest of your page. Then export the result as PNG, JPG or PDF when someone needs it outside Confluence.
Your designers stop exporting previews so others can look
Beyond PNG, JPG, GIF, WebP and SVG it reads HEIC straight off an iPhone, camera RAW files, and even PSD, XCF, Sketch and AI design files - from an attachment, a URL, Google Drive, or a credentialed S3, SFTP or database connection an admin set up once. The rest of the team looks at the design file itself, and nobody exports a preview to make that possible.
What the other image apps leave you doing in an image editor
Confluence's image apps arrange pictures - galleries, sliders, carousels. None of them changes one, so your screenshot with too much desktop around it still goes back through an image editor and returns as a second file.
